A Message from Moderator Chris: 2015 Programming Schedule

Hello, Flipsters!

First off, I want to thank everybody for your patience while the show has been off the air...I am pleased to report that FTT will be returning with new episodes beginning the weekend of January 3rd, 2015. This time away from the podcast has been absolutely critical in allowing me to adjust to my new role as Moderator Dad. Our new daughter, Roslin, is thriving, and gets bigger and stronger and cuter each day. We couldn't be more thrilled to have her as part of our family. I have been humbled by the overwhelming support of our fans. All of the well wishes and support have gone a long way in the last month in helping me feel more confident as a father. Thanks to everyone, both nearby and far away, for all your generous support. It's impossible to express on a blog post exactly how much this has meant to me.

With a new family comes new challenges. We now have 3 newborns in the FTT family, which makes it even more critical for us to support each-other and balance our responsibilities at home and at work. As the leader of our little project, it's on me to make decisions that help keep the show sustainable while preserving the quality of content that our fans have come to expect. For this reason, after careful consideration, I have made the decision that new episodes of Flip the Table will now arrive every three weeks going forward.

There are a few reasons for this change. An extra week between shows allows us to have more flexibility in coordinating recording sessions, as we now must consider child care arrangements for all of our little ones. This also ensures that I, as the person who does all the post-production and editing, will have more time between shows to complete the monumental task of fine-tuning each program so it meets the expectations of our fans (without sacrificing too much time with the newest member of our family).

Flip the Table is both a hobby for us and a service to the gaming community, and as the leader of the project it's important to me that we always put out the best possible product. Our fans have always been extremely supportive over the last 2 and a half years, and that is something we are extremely grateful for. I want to thank all of you for your understanding as we move forward with a new schedule that will allow us to continue bringing you the cheesy, weird and obscure side of board games.

In the coming months, we hope to get the chance to meet you at SnowCon this January at one of our many events at the con (or even just in passing...lunch at McDonald's, anyone?). Jared and I also plan to attend part of TotalCon in Mansfield, Massachusetts this coming February. In between episodes, we encourage you to join us on Facebook, Twitter, and BGG to keep the conversation rolling...and if you need some awesome content to listen to during those FTT off-weeks, don't forget to visit the Dice Tower Network for dozens of hours of board game content every single month.

I've missed podcasting, and I can safely speak for the whole panel when I say that we're thrilled to be back on the air. Here's looking forward to a cheesy, weird, and obscure 2015!

Sincerely,
Your Moderator, Chris

Episode 67: End of Year Special 2014

It's time once again for our super-sized, super-spectacular, super-bedazzled End of Year Special! We stop rolling and moving for once so we can take some time to answer a bunch of your questions and mispronounce all of your names. Then, we'll give our annual awards for the best and worst games we've covered in 2014. And it wouldn't be a special episode without another fan-created Battle of Wits, where the panel will fight for tens of thousands of VALUABLE POINTS! FTT will return in January...but for now, enjoy this special double-episode!

Episode 66: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

This week's game is a certified cult classic...a Milton Bradley title that makes even hardened hobby gamers want to play "Once More, with Feeling!" In Buffy the Vampire Slayer, players roll and move their way through Sunnyvale, fighting ancient vampires and searching for mystical artifacts...all while experiencing their own brand of teen drama (presumably). The panel searches for weapons, researches magic spells, and calls for help from the denizens of the Whedonverse while trying to prevent Buffy from being destroyed or turned into a vampire. Does Buffy deserve its cult classic status, or does it feel seven times longer than Firefly? Download now to find out!

Episode 65: Home Alone

Just in time for the much too early start of the Christmas season, we're playing the Home Alone board game! This spin and move memorization game, based on the massive 90's blockbuster, has players controlling both a particularly independent 8 year old and the infamous "Wet Bandits" as they try to protect the family's valuables while springing the most lethal traps on the crooks. Has the panel had enough of this one, or are they thirsty for more? Plus, Flip gets the fans involved in a very special (too early for the) holiday edition of the Battle of Wits!

Episode 64: Beakman's World

Take a little Mr. Wizard, a little Ren and Stimpy, and blend in a heaping helping of roll and move, and you get the Beakman's World: Beakmania Game! In this trivia/dexterity hybrid based on the 1990's-era educational science show for kids, players battle for beakers at Beakman's lab...using such varied props as dominoes, magnetic marbles, plastic discs, wadded up paper, rulers, and balloons. Does this nineties-tastic edutainment title manage to work in a little actual entertainment on the side? Plus: Professor Laserbooks tries to make a subjective Battle of Wits a little more scientific...

Episode 63: The Simpsons: Don't Panic

A board game about the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant? That's unpossible! This week we're diving into The Simpsons: Don't Panic...a game of spinning donuts and silly mayhem based on one of the longest running animated series of all time. Players compete in a series of crazy stunts in 60 second bursts as they race to collect enough pieces of junk to stop the reactor from melting down and, presumably, ending civilization. Does this game contain enough zany fun to make us say "Ay caramba," or will we be left eating our shorts? Plus, in this week's Battle of Wits, we'll find out who is the S-M-R-T-est about Simpson's merchandise...
